OBJECTIVES

Equal opportunities and inclusion in vocational education and training for young refugees

Rising migration numbers, whether due to wars, civil wars, economic reasons or climate change, challenge European societies to offer refugees and migrants a chance for their future lives. At the same time, there is a shortage of skilled workers in many European countries. Consequently, it is necessary to support young people and motivate them to start vocational training so that they can successfully integrate into working life.

However, the dropout rate is often very high in both school and vocational training. Reasons for this include inadequate accompanying support, not always realistic expectations on 'both sides' and the absence of technical and methodological skills. In addition, there is a lack of an overall strategy to promote the integration of young people.

This is where the project "EQUITY - Equal Opportunities and Inclusion in Vocational Education and Training for Young Refugees and Migrants" comes in. The aim is to exchange experiences with the successful inclusion of refugees and migrants from all over Europe, to bring together best practices and to use synergy effects to develop a holistic pedagogical strategy for successful inclusion. On this basis, different modules and a toolkit for practical use are developed with the aim of empowering young people to become active members of civil societies and to enable them to successfully enter the labour market. At the same time, teachers are supported to better deal with diversity and inclusion and to learn from each other on a European level.

The two-and-a-half-year cooperation brings together partners from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden working in education, training, social and community sectors.
